To move along the great Path of Compassion which belongs to the Buddhas, one must be active, one must exert great strength, and one must accept all kinds of hardships. It is easy to have such an aspiration, to talk about it, but to put it into reality will be the greatest test in life! The energy required to sustain oneself is enormous and unless one is able to draw it out of faith, out of love and compassion, and out of developed wisdom, most cultivators will fail in their tasks. No one may be half hearted in his commitments, no one may hope to win the goal solely through prayers and good wishes. All must be tried and all must be exposed to the experiences and trials. This means that there is no easy way to take the bodhisattva’s path, this means that one must go through all kinds of pains to have a right understanding of what pain is, so as to generate the enlightenment spirit.
Those who recite the Mani Prayer should be made to realise how this perfect mantra can change them in their outlooks of life. They must be prepared to change for the better and learn to accept the good graces which happiness and pains bring along. They have to do more than just praying for the improvement of sentient beings’s karma, they must act to help or to save them as they would their own loved ones!
