Each time you visit a temple or place of worship, a small bunch of flowers is an ideal offering to add fragrance and beauty to the altars where the most revered images of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas sit. Your flowers remind you that you come with a fresh mind and a beautiful motive of worship, and the next time you come, you will not find your flowers there anymore. This should remind you that spiritual cultivation is like that. Very often you begin with great and noble intentions, but after a short period of time, all is forgotten, and your motivations too are subject to decay—just like the flowers.
