Some people pray for the ability to feel the divine, to communicate, to be able to cure others, and all other kinds of motivations that may sound noble at first glance. But it is wrong aspiration, it is wrong understanding, for the purpose of worship is not for any self-gain that may confuse the mind and riddle it with delusions. All kinds of mystical powers are useless in the practice of compassion, in the search for Buddhahood. Only the ego is developed, only pride will be strengthened, and only greed will be established within the mind, setting the way to unwholesome thoughts, desires, and actions. (D-831109-2)
